Bahtina, filozofa in literarnega teoretika, predstavljamo z izborom “zgodnjih intimnih filozofskih del” iz dvajsetih let, tj. z laboratorijskimi pripravami velikih raziskav, in s povzemajočimi pregledi “poznega” Bahtina. Bahtin je razmišljal o “diahroniji”, “žanrskem spominu”, “povezanem tekstu”, o “izjavah” in “kontekstu”. Posebno zanimiv je njegov “dialogizem”, “dialoško pronicanje raznovrstnosti življenja v urejajočo sfero teorije” in dialoško naravo komunikacije. Bahtin je celotno človekovo življenje povezoval z odgovornostjo in, kot je dejal, z “ne-alibijem v bivanju”, tj. z odgovornim odnosom do življenja kot neponovljivega dogodka v sobivanju z drugim (sočlovekom) in drugimi (narodom, človeštvom). To svojevrstno Bahtinovo naravnanost so mnogi označili za drugo znanost.
